About the Artist
Mary Christina Flynn was born on Christmas Day, 1950, in Bangor Maine. I She lived in Sanford, Maine during her childhood and attended the Convent of the Sacred Heart in Noroton, Connecticut, Bradford College in Bradford, Massachusetts, and Lasalle Junior College in Newton, and Massachusetts. So he spent her summers in Searsport, Maine, on the shore of Penobscot Bay, on Squirrel Island in Boothbay Harbor and at Kennebunk Beach.
Mary attended the Rockport School of Photography, now known as Maine Media Workshops, where she met Paul Caponigro who became her mentor of fine art and landscape photography. Mary has won many national photography contests and was a triple winner in Black & White Magazine’s 2015 Single Image contest. Her images have appeared on magazine and book covers, in gallery shows, and in private, corporate and museum collections. She was honored to be asked by Patrick Dempsey to photograph the 2020 Dempsey Challenge. She also loved taking photographs along the coast of Maine at Monhegan Island, Stonington, Isle au Haut, Squirrel Island, Castine, North Haven, and the Olsen House in Cushing (the subject of many Andrew Wyeth paintings).
Mary took special care to collect the beauty of the world, not only through her photographs but also in the quiet details of nature that captured her attention. She found beauty in the smallest natural forms and spent endless hours with her camera, truly “seeing” nature in her own unique way. Her photographs reflect her deep empathy for the natural world and her sensitivity to its subtle beauty, serving as a continuing presence that keeps her close in our hearts.
